Up early. Breakfast at the hotel. Right out of the gates I stopped and took a few photos. We also stopped at the Dr. Thomas Walker first house in Kentucky park. C8 slipped and fell down a hill with a laugh and “That was FUN!” as we made our way to the swings. Then we played mini golf.

Lunch was at a great little drive-in called the Frosty Mug. N8 had the corn dog, C8 had a burger and fries, and I enjoyed a jumbo cheeseburger with mesquite fries. It was an outstanding burger. N8 picked up a regular hamburger just to make sure. We all agree that they had perhaps the best burger so far.

The restaurant itself is in a trailer home. There are picnic tables under an awning on the side. The waitress was friendly and helpful getting us our food.

We stopped in at the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park. We checked out the museum and such, then we headed up the mountain to Pinnacle Overlook. The views were breathtaking. There were also some Civil War “forts”, really no more than cannon placements, up on the mountain as well. They changed hands four times through the war.

We clamored down to the car, then hair-pin turned our way back to the base of the mountain.

Back on US-25E, we went through the tunnel into Tennessee.

Tazewell has a restored 1930’s Gulf gas station which I caught snaps of. We passed through some beautiful lake country before we made it into Newport for the evening.

Dinner was a Bella’s, which was an okay meal. The service was good.
